Posoltega (pronounced posol-TEH-gah) is a small town in Nicaragua. It is part of the Chinandega department. A "municipality" is like a local government area. It includes the main town and the smaller villages around it.

In 1998, Posoltega and the areas nearby were badly hit by Hurricane Mitch. This was a very strong storm that caused a lot of damage.

Posoltega is located in the western part of Nicaragua. It is in the Chinandega Department. This area is known for its rich volcanic soil. The municipality covers about 149 square kilometers (about 57 square miles).
