How Potato Parcel Started
Potato Parcel was created in May 2015. A 24-year-old app developer named Alex Craig started it. He was a student from the University of North Texas. Alex first promoted his idea on a website called Reddit.
The company began in Dallas, Texas. Alex used to buy potatoes from his local Walmart store. He said he wanted to create a new way to send messages. He thought it would be cool to send a message without using phones or computers. He wanted people to send anonymous messages on a potato!
This unique idea quickly became popular. It was a big hit on social media, like Twitter. Alex reported that the company made between $10,000 and $13,000 every month.
New Ownership and Products
In October 2015, Alex Craig sold Potato Parcel. An entrepreneur named Riad Bekhit bought the company for $40,000. The company then moved to San Bruno, California.
Riad Bekhit uses special gel pens to write messages on the potatoes. Since he took over, new products have been added. These include:
- Lump of Coal Potato: A potato painted black.
- Potato Pal: A potato with someone's face printed on it.
- Potato Postcard: A postcard glued onto a potato.
- Spooky Tater: A potato painted to look like a pumpkin.
You can also choose to have your potato shipped in a special burlap sack. By April 2016, the company's monthly profits grew even more. They reached between $20,000 and $25,000. Potato Parcel now ships potatoes to many places around the world. This includes Australia, Canada, Europe, and the United Kingdom.
