Poynor, Missouri facts for kids
Poynor is a small, quiet community located in southern Ripley County, Missouri, United States. It's an unincorporated community, which means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
You can find Poynor along Route 21. It's about seven miles southwest of a larger town called Doniphan. This community is also very close to the border with Arkansas, just about 1.5 miles north of it.
When Was Poynor Established?
Poynor got its start a long time ago. A post office opened there in 1891. This post office helped people send and receive mail for over 100 years! It finally closed in 1992.
The community was named after a local businessman. His name was Marion C. Poynor, and he was an important person in the area.
