Práxedis Gilberto Guerrero is a small town in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua. It's the main town, or "municipal seat," of the Práxedis G. Guerrero municipality.
In 2005, the town had a population of 3,431 people. However, by 2010, the number of residents had dropped to 2,128.
Town's History
The town was first started in 1849. It was originally called San Ignacio. A priest named Ramón Ortiz y Miera founded it.
The first people who settled here came from Texas and New Mexico. They chose to move to Mexico after the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. This treaty meant that their lands became part of the United States.
The town's current name was given in December 1983. The State Congress decided to honor a leader from the Mexican Revolution. His name was Práxedis G. Guerrero. He died in battle in Janos, Chihuahua, on December 30, 1910.
