The Premià de Mar Printing Museum (which is Museu Municipal de l'Estampació de Premià de Mar in Catalan) is a special place in the town of Premià de Mar, Catalonia. It's found inside an old gas factory, which makes it even more interesting! This museum is dedicated to showing how fabrics were printed throughout history.
It tells the story of textile printing not just in Premià de Mar, but across all of Catalonia. The museum is part of the Science and Technology Museum of Catalonia. It also belongs to the Barcelona Provincial Council Local Museum Network. Its main goal is to display old tools and examples of printed fabrics. It also explains the different ways people have printed patterns on textiles over many years. The museum highlights how important this industry was for Catalonia's growth.
The Museum's Special Home
The museum is located in a very old building called the gas works. This building was finished in 1884. It has a beautiful design, mixing styles like Art Nouveau and Neoclassical. It's quite special because it's the only coal gas factory still standing in Catalonia.
New parts of the museum opened on April 14, 2002. Then, in 2005, the main exhibition was ready for visitors. This exhibition shows how textile printing techniques have changed. You can see how they evolved from the 1700s all the way up to today. The museum also displays real fabrics and dresses from different time periods. Plus, there are cool reproductions of historical items.
