Prince Karl Wilhelm of Hesse-Darmstadt was a young royal from a German state called Hesse-Darmstadt. He was born on June 17, 1693, in Nidda. Sadly, he passed away on May 17, 1707, in Gießen, when he was just 13 years old.
Early Life of Prince Karl Wilhelm
Prince Karl Wilhelm was the second son of Ernest Louis, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt. A Landgrave was like a ruler or a duke of a territory in Germany. His mother was Dorothea Charlotte of Brandenburg-Ansbach, who was a princess herself.
When Karl Wilhelm was only four years old, his father gave him an important role. He was made a Colonel of a new army group called the Hesse-Darmstadt Kreis Regiment. A Colonel is a high-ranking officer in the military.
Two years later, when he was six, Karl Wilhelm started his education with a teacher named Johann Konrad Dippel. This happened in Gießen, a city where his family had moved. They had to leave their home because French troops were advancing during a war.
A Young Prince in Wartime
Karl Wilhelm died at the young age of 13. This happened during a big conflict known as the War of Spanish Succession. This war involved many European countries fighting over who would be the next king of Spain.
After Karl Wilhelm's death, his younger brother, Prince Francis Ernest of Hessen-Darmstadt, took his place in the Regiment.
