Province 1, also known as the Province of New England, is a special area within the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. Think of it like a region or district. The Episcopal Church has nine of these provinces across the country. Province 1 is made up of seven smaller church areas called dioceses, all located in the New England part of the United States.

Discovering Province 1

Province 1 is an important part of the Episcopal Church. It helps connect different church groups across New England. These groups work together on projects and share ideas. It's a way for churches in the same area to support each other.

The Seven Dioceses of New England

Province 1 includes seven specific church regions. Each region is called a diocese and has its own leader, usually a bishop. These dioceses cover all the New England states.

The seven dioceses in Province 1 are:

  • Diocese of Connecticut
  • Diocese of Maine
  • Diocese of Massachusetts
  • Diocese of New Hampshire
  • Diocese of Rhode Island
  • Diocese of Vermont
  • Diocese of Western Massachusetts

Among these, the Diocese of Massachusetts has the most members. The Diocese of Connecticut is the oldest diocese in the entire Episcopal Church.

Leaders of Province 1

Like any organization, Province 1 has leaders who help guide its work. These leaders are chosen from within the dioceses that make up the province.

Currently, Stephen T. Lane from the Diocese of Maine serves as the president of Province 1. Kit Wang from the Diocese of Massachusetts is the vice president. They help oversee the activities and goals of the province.
