The pubic bone (also called the pubis) is one of the important bones that make up your pelvis. The pelvis is the large bone structure at the bottom of your spine that supports your body and connects your legs. The pubic bone is located at the front and lower part of the pelvis.

This bone is covered by a layer of soft tissue and fat. It helps protect important organs in your lower body.

The pubic bone is made of three main parts:

  • The body
  • The superior ramus (upper branch)
  • The inferior ramus (lower branch)

The body of the pubic bone forms part of the acetabulum. This is the hip socket, where the top of your thigh bone (femur) fits in. This connection allows you to move your legs in many directions. The inner surface of the pubic bone also helps form the wall of the lower part of the pelvis.

The left and right pubic bones meet in the middle of your body. They join together at a special joint called the pubic symphysis. This joint is made of cartilage, which is a strong, flexible tissue. It allows a small amount of movement between the two bones.
