How to Play Puss in the Corner
This game is simple to set up and can be played almost anywhere with four corners.
Setting Up the Game
To start, you need a square area. This could be a yard, a room, or even a court. Look for four corners, posts, or trees that are about the same distance from each other. These will be your "corners."
One player is chosen to be "Puss." Puss stands in the very center of the playing area. The other four players each pick one of the four corners and stand there.
Playing the Game
The game begins with the four players in the corners. Their goal is to switch places with each other. They can run to any other corner.
While the corner players are trying to swap places, "Puss" in the middle tries to grab an empty corner.
What Happens if Puss Gets a Corner?
If Puss manages to get into a corner before another player does, then the player who is left without a corner becomes the new "Puss." That player then moves to the center of the playing area.
The game then starts again with the new Puss in the middle and the other four players in the corners.
A Special Rule
Sometimes, two players might try to switch corners, and Puss might jump into one of their old spots. Here's how that works:
- Imagine Player A and Player B are trying to swap corners.
- Player A successfully runs to Player B's corner.
- But Puss runs into Player A's old corner.
- In this case, Player B is the one left without a corner. So, Player B becomes the new "Puss" in the center.
The game continues with lots of running and quick changes!
