Queen Elizabeth School facts for kids
Queen Elizabeth School (QES) is a well-known co-educational secondary school in Hong Kong. It is located on Sai Yee Street in Mongkok. The school is over 55 years old and has more than 1200 students and 50 teachers. Many primary school students want to study here each year because it is a very popular school.
QES is also an English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) school. This means that most subjects are taught in English. Only Chinese language and Chinese history are taught in Chinese. The school offers many student groups and clubs. These include the Form Association (FA), Prefects, the Big Brother and Sister Scheme (BBSS), and the Camp Warden Association. There are clubs for all students to join.
Student Life at QES
Students at Queen Elizabeth School have many chances to get involved in school life. There are different groups and activities that help students learn new things and make friends.
What are Prefects?
Prefects are a special team of students who help keep the school organized. They help maintain order and support teachers. Each year, teachers choose some excellent students to become prefects. These students help make sure the school runs smoothly for everyone.
Clubs and Societies
QES has a wide variety of clubs for students to join. These clubs are usually grouped into three main types:
- Subject-based clubs: These clubs help students learn more about school subjects, like science or history.
- Interest and personal development clubs: These clubs focus on hobbies and helping students grow. This could be anything from art to debate.
- Service clubs: These clubs help students give back to the community or the school.
Besides these, QES also has special groups called societies. Examples include the English Society, Chinese Society, and the Camp Warden Society. Older students can even become the leader, or "chairman," of a club. They are chosen by other club members through a vote. The chairman can then ask other members to help form a committee to run the club.
