Quezaltepeque is a town and a municipality in El Salvador. It is located in the La Libertad department. A municipality is like a local government area.
This town is about 15 kilometers (about 9 miles) away from San Salvador, the capital city of El Salvador.
The name Quezaltepeque comes from the Nahuat language. It means "hills of quetzal." A quetzal is a beautiful, colorful bird. These birds used to live in the area around Quezaltepeque. Over time, many trees were cut down, which made the birds move to other places.
