Quitirrisí is a special area, like a neighborhood or a small town, within the Mora canton in Costa Rica. It's part of the San José Province, which is one of Costa Rica's main regions.

This district is home to the Huetar indigenous territory of Quitirrisí. The Huetar people are one of Costa Rica's native groups. One fun place to visit here is the Rancho Biriteca. It's a cultural center that helps keep the Huetar culture and their amazing handicraft traditions alive. You can find and buy beautiful handmade items like chests, hats, and hammocks in many stores owned by indigenous people throughout the district.

Quitirrisí became an official district on September 11, 2014. This happened because of a special law called Law 9269.

Location and Size

Quitirrisí covers an area of about 26.69 square kilometers. To give you an idea, that's roughly the size of 2,669 football fields! It is located about 1,140 meters above sea level. This means it's quite high up, which can make the weather cooler and very pleasant.
