Rachel Elizabeth Pruden-Herndon (February 12, 1898 – January 10, 1979) was an important American lawyer. She made history by becoming the first African-American woman allowed to practice law in Georgia. This happened on December 27, 1942. Later, in 1956, she was the first African-American woman from Georgia allowed to argue cases at the U.S. Supreme Court. This is the highest court in the country. In 1965, she was chosen to be a judge in a local city court.

Rachel Elizabeth Pruden was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on February 12, 1898. She went to public schools in Atlanta. After that, she graduated from Atlanta University. She learned about law by working as a secretary for a lawyer named A. T. Walden. He taught her a lot about the legal system.
