The Rad Plzen cis. 9 ZCBJ (SD10-6) is a special building in Morse Bluff, Nebraska. It was built in 1911. This building is important because it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 20, 1986. This list includes places that are important to American history.
This building was once a busy meeting place for the Czech community in the area. It was home to the ZCBJ Lodge Plzen. ZCBJ stands for Zapadni Ceska Bratrska Jednota, which means "Western Bohemian Fraternal Union". This group helped Czech immigrants and their families. The ZCBJ Lodge Plzen started on June 6, 1880. It was first part of the Czech-Slovak Protective Society but joined ZCBJ in 1897.
What is the ZCBJ Hall?
The ZCBJ Hall in Morse Bluff was a community center. It was a place where people could gather. They held meetings, social events, and helped each other. The building is a good example of Renaissance Revival architecture. This style of building looks like old European buildings.
From ZCBJ to WFLA
Over time, the ZCBJ group changed its name. It became the Western Fraternal Life Association (WFLA). This group still helps people today. As fewer people joined the group in Morse Bluff, it became harder to take care of the hall.
A New Purpose for the Hall
In 2001, the building found a new owner. It was given to the Morse Bluff American Legion Post 340. The American Legion is a group for military veterans. The WFLA can still use the hall for their events.
Today, the hall is still a busy place. Besides American Legion and WFLA events, people can rent it. It is used for parties like wedding receptions and graduation parties. It is also a place for family reunions.
