Rafael Delgado (born August 20, 1853 – died May 20, 1914) was an important Mexican writer. In 1896, he became a member of the Academia Mexicana de la Lengua, which is like a special group of experts who care for the Spanish language in Mexico.

His Life Story

Rafael Delgado was born on August 20, 1853, in Córdoba, Veracruz, Mexico. His parents, Pedro Delgado and María de Jesús Sáinz, held traditional views. Because of new, more modern ideas spreading in Córdoba, his family moved to Orizaba.

Rafael studied at the National College of Orizaba. He earned a degree in education there. After finishing his studies, he became a teacher at the same college. He taught subjects like literature and history.

Later, José López Portillo y Rojas, who was the Governor of Jalisco, invited Rafael Delgado to lead the state's education department. However, Rafael had arthritis, a condition that made his joints hurt. This made it difficult for him to continue, so he had to return to Orizaba soon after. He passed away on May 20, 1914. He never married.
