Life Cycle of a Dragonfly
Dragonflies, including the rainforest vicetail, have an amazing life cycle. It starts when the female dragonfly lays her eggs in or near water.
- Eggs: The tiny eggs are usually laid on plants in the water or directly into the stream.
- Nymphs: After hatching, the eggs turn into larvae called nymphs. Dragonfly nymphs live underwater. They are fierce predators, eating small aquatic insects and even tiny fish. They breathe using gills, just like fish!
