Ramón Santana is a town and a municipality in the San Pedro de Macorís Province of the Dominican Republic. It is located in the eastern part of the country.
The area was first known as Guasa, or sometimes Guaza. In 1899, its name was changed to Ramón Santana. This new name honored the twin brother of Pedro Santana, an important figure in Dominican history.
Geography of Ramón Santana
This town is located on the right side of the Soco river. The Soco river is an important waterway in the region.
Another river, the Guasa river, flows close to the town. The Guasa river is a smaller stream that flows into the Soco river.
History of Ramón Santana
In 1888, Ramón Santana was given a special status. It became a Puesto Cantonal. This was like a military post or a small administrative area. It was part of the El Seibo Province at that time.
Later, in 1938, Ramón Santana's status changed again. It was officially moved to the San Pedro de Macorís Province. At this time, it was also made a full municipality. This meant it had its own local government.
