Ranald George Macdonald (born August 29, 1788 – died March 11, 1873) was an important person in Scottish history. He was a Scottish clan chief and also a Member of Parliament (MP) in the United Kingdom.

Who Was Ranald George Macdonald?
Ranald George Macdonald was the son of John Macdonald. His father was the 18th Chief of the Clanranald. His mother was Katherine. Her father was Robert McQueen, Lord Braxfield.
Becoming a Clan Chief
Ranald George Macdonald became the 19th Chief of Clanranald. This meant he was the leader of his family's clan. He married Caroline Anne Edgcumbe on February 13, 1812. She was the daughter of Richard Edgcumbe, 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe. They had children together.
Life as a Member of Parliament
Ranald George Macdonald was chosen to be a Member of Parliament. He represented the area of Plympton Erle. He was elected on October 10, 1812. He served in Parliament until 1824.
In 1824, another clan leader, Alexander Ranaldson MacDonell of Glengarry, tried to challenge Ranald's position. He tried to take away Macdonald's title as chief of Clan Donald. However, this attempt was not successful.
Financial Challenges
Between 1813 and 1838, Ranald George Macdonald faced money problems. Because of these difficulties, he had to sell almost all of his family's lands.
