The community center in Randolph

Randolph is a small community located in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. It's known as a census-designated place, which means it's a special area identified by the government for collecting information. Randolph is mostly a farming and timber area. You'll find many farms and sawmills here. There's even a cotton gin owned by BHF Farms. A large Amish community lives nearby, which is unique for the southern United States.

A Look at Randolph's Past

Randolph was first officially recognized as a census-designated place in the 2020 United States census. At that time, its population was 197 people.

Randolph High School History

Randolph High School opened its doors in 1937. It provided education for all students from first grade through twelfth grade. Basketball was the main sport, and students also participated in track and field. Because the school was small, sports options were limited, but a football team was started around 1965. The school's mascot was a "Rambler," shown as a drawing of a traveler with a pack.

Randolph High School closed in 1971. This happened because schools in the area were combined into larger districts. The main school building stood until 2009. An owner had it carefully taken down, brick by brick, by Amish workers using a horse and cart. However, the old stone building that was once the home economics and agriculture center for the high school still stands. Today, it serves as the Community Center for Randolph.

Community Life in Randolph

The community of Randolph loves to gather, especially for "Randolph Day." This special event happens on the first Saturday in October at the Community Center. It's a reunion for anyone who ever attended Randolph High School, whether they graduated or not.

Randolph Day Celebrations

Randolph Day is a social event where people who have moved away can catch up on local news. They also get to see old friends and classmates, sometimes after many years! People bring food to share, and everyone enjoys a meal together. After lunch, groups gather by their graduating class year. They stand up to show everyone who is there from each year. Even as recently as 2009, some of the very first graduates, teachers, and founders of the school were still attending this special day.
