Rasim Delić (born 4 February 1949 – died 16 April 2010) was a top military leader for the Bosnian Army. He was a professional soldier in the Yugoslav Army. He left that army when Yugoslavia began to break apart. Later, he faced legal proceedings for not preventing or punishing actions by a unit under his command during the war.

Who Was Rasim Delić?
Rasim Delić was an important military figure in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He served in two different armies during his career. He played a key role in the Bosnian War.
Early Military Life
Rasim Delić started his military journey on 1 October 1967. He joined the Military Academy for land forces. He finished his studies there on 31 July 1971.
From 1971 to 1985, he worked in an artillery division. This division was part of the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA). It was based in Sarajevo. From October 1980 to September 1984, he was its commander.
Later, from September 1984 to August 1985, Rasim was a Chief of Staff. He was also a Deputy Commander in an artillery regiment. He was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel on 22 December 1987. From July 1990 to April 1992, he was an Assistant Chief of Operations. This was in the 4th Corps of the JNA in Sarajevo.
Leading the Bosnian Army
Rasim Delić officially asked to leave the JNA on 13 April 1992. Soon after, he became the Head of Training and Operations. This was for the Territorial Defence of RBiH.
On 16 April 1992, he was told to leave Sarajevo. He arrived in Visoko on 19 April. There, he helped form new military units. These units were in central Bosnia. The Visoko Tactical Group was created, and Rasim Delić led it. By 12 May, he joined the Main Staff. He was officially tasked with organizing combat in central Bosnia.
On 20 May 1992, the Territorial Defence forces became the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On 17 October 1992, Rasim Delić was appointed Acting Head. This was for the Department of Operations Planning and Training. This group was called Operation Command Visoko.
In late 1992, the Visoko group was renamed. It became the Staff of the Supreme Command – Visoko Department. This meant it reported directly to the Presidency.
On 27 April 1993, Rasim was chosen as one of four officers. They represented the ARBiH in a joint command. This command was with the Croatian Defence Council (HVO).
On 8 June 1993, the Bosnian Presidency reorganized the ARBiH. Rasim Delić was appointed Commander of the ARBiH Main Staff. This gave him full control of the ARBiH. He also became a member of the RBiH Presidency.
Important Role in the War
One of Delić's biggest achievements was preventing the government army from collapsing. This happened in the second half of 1993. His actions created time for peace talks. These talks were led by the US government. They helped end the conflict with the Bosnian Croats in March 1994.
After His Military Career
After the war, Delić became the commander of the Bosnian Federation's army. He held this position until he retired in 2000.
In December 2004, he enrolled at Sarajevo University. He completed his studies with a thesis. It was about the creation and role of the ARBiH.
He also worked with non-profit groups. He helped start the Udruženja za zaštitu tekovina borbe za Bosnu i Hercegovinu. This group aimed to protect the achievements of the fight for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
His Final Years
Rasim Delić passed away on 16 April 2010. He died in his apartment in Sarajevo. He was survived by his wife, Suada. He also had two sons and four grandchildren.
