Ray Mercy, born on March 25, 1974, is an Australian former professional rugby league player. He was known for playing in the 1990s. Ray mostly played as a centre (CE) or a winger (WG). He played for two main teams: the Parramatta Eels and the North Queensland Cowboys.

Ray Mercy's Rugby League Journey
Starting His Career in Rugby League
Ray Mercy began his rugby league journey as a junior player for the Norths Ipswich Tigers. His first big game, known as his "first grade debut," was for the Parramatta Eels. This happened in Round 7 of the 1995 ARL season. He came into the game from the bench.
The game was tough, and the Eels lost to the Auckland Warriors at Parramatta Stadium. Ray played 9 games in his first season. All of these games ended in losses for the Eels. At the end of 1995, the Eels decided to let Ray go. They were looking to make big changes to their team.
Playing for Other Teams
In 1996, Ray Mercy played for a team called the Atherton Roosters. This team was part of the Cairns District Rugby League.
Time with the North Queensland Cowboys
In 1997, Ray joined the North Queensland Cowboys. That year, he scored six tries in six games. He spent most of this season playing in the reserve grade team. This is a team for players who are developing their skills.
In 1998, Ray played his first full season in the top league. He played 24 games and scored 12 tries for the Cowboys. In one amazing game in the 1998 NRL season, Ray scored four tries! This happened in a 26–2 win against the Balmain Tigers. Scoring four tries in one game set a new record for the Cowboys. This record still stands today. After this successful season, Ray left the Cowboys.
Later Years in Rugby and Coaching
In 2001, Ray Mercy played for the Ipswich Jets in the Queensland Cup. This is another important rugby league competition.
Later, in 2006, Ray tried a different sport. He switched from rugby league to rugby union. He played rugby union for a team called Grafton in northern New South Wales. Over the years, he also played for many local rugby league teams. These included the Booval Swifts, Lower Clarence, and South Grafton. In 2019, Ray took on a new role. He became the coach for the Lower Clarence Magpies team.
