Red Chute is a small community in Bossier Parish, Louisiana, in the United States. It's called a "census-designated place" (CDP) because the government counts its population for statistics, even though it's not a formally organized city. In 2020, about 7,065 people lived there. Red Chute is part of the larger area that includes the cities of Shreveport and Bossier City.

Geography and Location

Red Chute is located in northwestern Louisiana. It is right next to Bossier City on its western side and Eastwood to its east.

The main roads through Red Chute are U.S. Routes 80 and 79. These roads go west about 8 miles (13 km) to downtown Shreveport. Interstate 20 runs along the southern edge of Red Chute, but there isn't a direct exit into the community. However, Interstate 220 branches off I-20 near Red Chute, and Exit 17 (for US 80/79) is the closest way to get into the area.

The Red Chute area covers about 9.2 square miles (23.8 square kilometers). Most of this land is dry, with only a small part, about 0.02 square miles (0.06 square kilometers), being water.

In 2020, the census counted 7,065 people living in Red Chute. There were 2,841 households and 1,865 families living in the community.

Red Chute is a diverse place. The census showed that about 72.67% of the people were White (not Hispanic). About 11.35% were Black or African American. Other groups included Native American, Asian, and Pacific Islander people. About 4.84% of residents identified as being of two or more races. Also, about 9.68% of the population was of Hispanic or Latino background.

Education for Students

Students in Red Chute attend schools that are part of the Bossier Parish School District.

Depending on where they live in Red Chute, students might go to different elementary schools. Some attend T. L. Rodes Elementary School (Pre-Kindergarten to 1st grade) and Platt Elementary School (2nd-3rd grades), both located in Red Chute. Older elementary students (4th-5th grades) might go to Princeton Elementary School. After elementary school, students typically attend Haughton Middle School and then Haughton High School.

In the western part of Red Chute, students go to Stockwell Place Elementary School, Cope Middle School, and Airline High School.
