Building History and Design
Redvers House was built in 1971 by a company called Newman Doncaster Associates. It was originally owned by the Sheffield City Council. The top 11 floors were used as offices for different parts of their Social Services department. These departments helped families, protected children, and supported adults.
How Tall is Redvers House?
Redvers House stands 54 meters (about 177 feet) tall. It has 14 floors. When it was first built, the outside had a lot of copper-tinted glass.
Modern Makeover
In 2005, Redvers House got a big update. The outside was changed to a light grey and aqua color. This makeover cost about £7,000,000. The company that did the work was Irwins, based in Leeds. Inside, the offices, stairs, and bathrooms were also completely redone.
Shops at the Bottom
The first three floors of the building used to have a Nisbetts retail store. This shop faced onto Furnival Gate, a street nearby.
From Offices to Homes
In late 2014, Redvers House was put up for sale. The asking price was £7,000,000. Sheffield City Council planned to move out of the building by the end of 2014.
New Purpose for the Building
The people selling the building thought it could stay as offices or be turned into apartments for people to live in. After the Council departments moved to another building called Moorfoot, Redvers House was indeed changed. It became homes for students and young professionals.
