A Tall Building in Mobile
When it was built in 1929, the Regions Bank Building was very impressive. It stands 236 feet (72 m) tall. That's about as tall as 20 giraffes stacked on top of each other! The building has 18 floors.
For 36 years, it was the tallest building in Mobile. It was also one of the tallest buildings in the whole state of Alabama. Only buildings in Birmingham were taller. Today, it is the 6th-tallest building in Mobile.
Its Unique Look
The building was designed by a company called Graham, Anderson, Probst & White. They were architects from Chicago. The building is a great example of Art Deco style. This style was popular in the 1920s and 1930s.
One special part of the building is its roof. It has a pyramid shape. This pyramid is covered with copper. The main part of the building is 190 feet (58 m) tall, and then the pyramid roof adds even more height.
A New Chapter
In 2017, there was big news about the building. It was announced that it would get a major update. The plan was to turn the office building into apartments. This project cost about $30 million. It created 82 new apartments inside the historic building.
