Reichsführer-SS facts for kids
The Reichsführer-SS was a special title and a very high rank in an organization called the Schutzstaffel (SS). This title existed from 1925 to 1945. At first, from 1925 to 1933, it was just a title for the leader of the SS. But from 1934 to 1945, it became the highest possible rank within the SS. The person who held this position for the longest time, and was the most well-known, was Heinrich Himmler.
Who Held the Title of Reichsführer-SS?
Over the 20 years this title existed, five different people held the position of Reichsführer-SS. Three of them held it as a title, and two held it as an actual military rank within the SS.
