Rena Lalgie is a British civil servant who held an important job as the Governor of Bermuda. She served in this role from December 2020 to January 2025.
What makes her special is that she was the first woman to be appointed Governor of Bermuda. She was also the first person of African-Caribbean heritage to hold this position. A Governor is like a representative of the King or Queen in a territory. They help manage the government and make sure things run smoothly.
Rena Lalgie's Career Journey
Rena Lalgie has had a long and interesting career working for the British government. She is a "civil servant," which means she works for the government but is not an elected politician. Her job is to help run the country's services.
She worked in many different departments. These included the Home Office, which handles things like immigration and security. She also worked for the Cabinet Office, which supports the Prime Minister and the government's main decisions.
Later, she worked at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. This department helps businesses grow and supports new ideas. She was also a director at UK Trade & Investment. This group helps British companies trade with other countries. It is now called the Department for International Trade.
Before becoming Governor, Rena Lalgie led the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI). This office was created in 2016 within the UK Treasury. Its job is to make sure that financial rules, called "sanctions," are followed. These rules stop money from going to harmful groups or activities.
