Renmore facts for kids
Renmore is a lively area, or "suburb," located in Galway City, Ireland. It's about 2 kilometers (a little over a mile) east of the city center. The name Renmore comes from the Irish words An Rinn Mhór, which means "big point" or "headland."
Renmore stretches along the coast, south of the main Dublin Road. It goes from the edge of Lough Atalia on one side to Lurgan Park on the other. About 5,000 people call Renmore home. You can also find Ballyloughane beach here, which even has places for camping!

Getting Around and Schools
Lough Atalia is a lake between Renmore and Galway City. You can cross it using a public path next to the railway line, often called 'the line' by locals.
For students, Renmore has two primary schools. One is Scoil Chaitriona, a national (primary) school. There's also Gaelscoil Dara, which is an all-Irish school where lessons are taught in the Irish language. St Oliver Plunkett Church is located right next to Scoil Chaitriona.
Important Buildings and Services
Renmore is home to Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa, also known as Renmore Barracks. This is an important base for the Irish Army's Southern Brigade. The barracks is named after Liam Mellows, an Irish leader. It used to be a base for the Connaught Rangers when Ireland was under British rule. Today, it's the base for the 1st Infantry Battalion. The Department of Defence, which manages Ireland's military, also has offices in Renmore.
The Galway campus of Atlantic Technological University is also in Renmore. This university is one of the biggest employers in the area, providing many jobs.
There is also a private hospital in Renmore called the Bon Secours Hospital, Galway. It is part of the Bon Secours Health System.
Fun Events
One of the most popular events in Renmore is the Renmore Panto. A "panto" is a type of musical comedy show, often performed around Christmas. The Renmore Panto started in 1979 and has been a yearly tradition ever since! It has been performed in different places over the years, including Leisureland and the Town Hall Theatre.
