Ricardo Arregui's Career
Ricardo Arregui studied medicine at the University of Zaragoza. He then focused on something called Mountain Medicine. This field helps people who get sick or hurt in cold, high places. He worked at a special Frostbite Unit. This unit helps people who have parts of their body frozen, like fingers or toes.
Doctor for TV Expeditions
Dr. Arregui became the official doctor for a TV show called Al filo de lo imposible. This show made documentaries about amazing adventures. He went on big expeditions with the TV crew. In 1992, he traveled to Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain. In 2000, he went to the North Pole, a very cold place at the top of the Earth.
After his trip to Mount Everest, Dr. Arregui wrote a book. It was called "El quirófano del hielo: del bisturí al Everest". This means "The Operating Room of Ice: From Scalpel to Everest."
Treating Famous Climbers
Many famous mountain climbers have been treated by Dr. Arregui. These include Spanish climbers like Edurne Pasaban and Juanito Oiarzabal. He also helped Alberto Iñurrategi and Ivan Vallejo from Ecuador. Juanjo San Sebastian, another climber, also received treatment from him. These climbers often needed help because they lost fingers or toes due to severe frostbite.
Work in Handball
Besides his medical career, Ricardo Arregui also worked in sports. From 2003 to 2008, he was the president of a handball team. This team was called CAI Balonmano Aragón. They played in important competitions like the EHF Cup and the Asobal League. He also served as the president of the Asobal League itself from 2006 to 2007.
