Starting His Acting Career
Ricco Ross began his acting journey with small roles. His first TV appearance was as an extra on the show The Young and the Restless. He also had a small part in Hill Street Blues.
A big moment early in his career was starring in the music video for Whitney Houston's hit song "Saving All My Love for You" in 1985. He played the main male role in the video.
Famous Roles in Movies
Ricco Ross has appeared in many movies. One of his most memorable roles was Private Ricco Frost in the 1986 film Aliens. This movie is a science fiction action story.
He also acted in other films like Death Wish 3 (1985) and Spies Like Us (1985). Later, he was in Mission Impossible (1996) and Fierce Creatures (1997). In 2003, he played Nate Washington in Nate and the Colonel.
How Ricco Ross Got the Role in Aliens
Interestingly, Ricco Ross first tried out for a different part in Aliens. He read for the role of Corporal Hicks. Then, he was offered the part of Private Drake. However, he decided to turn it down because he wanted to be in another movie called Full Metal Jacket.
The director of Aliens, James Cameron, was very impressed with Ricco's audition. Because of this, James Cameron created a brand new character, Private Frost, just for Ricco Ross. Ricco then left the other movie to join the cast of Aliens. He later shared that Private Frost's first name is actually Robert.
Acting in Television Shows
From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, Ricco Ross lived and worked in the United Kingdom. He played Greg Dacosta in the BBC1 drama Westbeach.
While in the UK, he made guest appearances in popular shows. He was in Doctor Who in 1988, playing the Ringmaster in an episode called "The Greatest Show in the Galaxy". He also appeared in Jeeves and Wooster. In 1991, he had a supporting role as CIA agent Karl Richfield in the mini-series Sleepers.
More recently, Ricco Ross has continued to act in various TV shows and commercials in the United States. He was in P-Valley as Pastor R. J. Gilfield from 2020 to 2022. He also appeared in Beauty in Black starting in 2024.
