About Richard Crowley
Early Steps in Journalism
Richard Crowley began his career in journalism in 1976. He started working at a newspaper called the Derry Journal. This was his first experience reporting on news stories.
Working at RTÉ
During the 1980s, Richard joined RTÉ television. He worked as a reporter, finding and sharing news stories. He also became a news presenter, delivering the news directly to viewers. He even presented a special news feature programme called Radharc.
Later, Richard moved to RTÉ Radio. He hosted the popular morning show Morning Ireland for six years. He also presented the RTÉ News at One, which gives listeners the latest news at lunchtime.
Reporting from the Middle East
In 2001, Richard Crowley returned to RTÉ TV News. He became their special correspondent for the Middle East. This meant he lived and reported from that region until 2009. He covered many important events and stories from that part of the world.
In October 2007, Richard published a book called No Man's Land. This book likely shared his experiences and insights from his time reporting.
Later Career and Recognition
In 2009, Richard started presenting a new TV series on RTÉ. It was called The Smart Money and focused on Irish business and finance. From June 2009, he also presented and edited the radio show This Week on RTÉ Radio 1.
Richard began co-presenting Prime Time in 2010. This is a major current affairs programme on RTÉ television. He left that role in 2012. He continued to present the News at One on Radio 1 and This Week on RTÉ radio until he left RTÉ in December 2017.
In 2015, Richard Crowley received a special award. He was named News Broadcaster of the Year at the Irish annual radio broadcasting awards, known as the PPIs. This award recognized his excellent work in radio news.
