Serving in the Maine House
In 2020, Richard Evans ran for a seat in the Maine House of Representatives. This is where laws are made for the state. It was a close election with three candidates. He won against the person who was already in office, Norm Higgins (an Independent), and Republican Chad Perkins.
Mr. Evans received 1,631 votes. Chad Perkins got 1,520 votes, and Norm Higgins received 1,419 votes. Richard Evans was the only Democrat to win a seat that had been held by another party in the 2020 election.
In 2022, Mr. Evans ran for re-election. His district was renumbered to District 31 because of new boundaries. This district usually votes for Republicans. Chad Perkins ran against him again. This time, there was no Independent candidate. Richard Evans was defeated, with Perkins receiving 2,108 votes to Evans' 1,754.
