Richard Hibbard (born 13 December 1983) is a famous retired Welsh rugby player. He played as a hooker, which is a key position in the front row of a rugby team. He played for many top teams, including the Dragons.
Richard was born in Neath, Wales. He is married and has three children. He started playing rugby union when he was young. He played for local clubs like Aberavon Quins RFC and Taibach RFC. He also went to Glan Afan Comprehensive School.

Early Rugby Career
Richard played for senior clubs such as Taibach, Aberavon RFC, and Swansea. He became well-known while playing for the Ospreys. The Ospreys are one of Wales's main rugby teams.
He also played a different type of rugby called rugby league. He played for the Aberavon Fighting Irish. In 2003, he played one game for the Wales A rugby league team. They won against England A.
Playing for Wales
Richard Hibbard first played for the Welsh national team in June 2006. This is called earning a "cap." He was chosen to play against Argentina.
He could not play in the 2011 Rugby World Cup because of an injury. This was a big disappointment for him.
British & Irish Lions
In 2013, Richard was picked for the British & Irish Lions squad. This is a very special team made up of the best players from the UK and Ireland. He played in all three important test matches against Australia. He even started the final match, which decided the series winner.
Club Rugby Moves
On 16 December 2013, it was announced that Richard would move to Gloucester Rugby. This is an English team in the Aviva Premiership, which is a top league. He signed a three-year contract starting in the 2014–15 season.
Later, on 18 December 2017, Richard confirmed he would return to Wales. He signed a three-year contract with the Dragons. The Dragons play in the Pro14 league. He joined them for the 2018–19 season.
Life After Rugby
In January 2022, Richard Hibbard announced he was retiring from playing rugby. But he did not stop being busy!
He started new businesses. In 2021, he opened two restaurants: The Hideout Cafe and The Front. Both are in Port Talbot, Wales. In 2023, he also started a rum business called Mortal Bunny. In 2024, he opened another restaurant called Sand Rabbit Bar and Grill.
In April 2024, Richard was given an important job. He became the chief executive officer of Wales Rugby League. This means he helps manage and grow rugby league in Wales.
