Richard Newport (born July 28, 1685 – died December 3, 1716) was an important British politician. He was known as 'The Honourable' from 1708. He served in the British Parliament, helping to make decisions for the country.
Richard Newport's Life
Richard Newport was born on July 28, 1685. He was the second son of Richard Newport, 2nd Earl of Bradford. His mother was Mary Wilbraham. Richard had two brothers: Henry Newport, 3rd Earl of Bradford and Thomas Newport, 4th Earl of Bradford. His uncle was Thomas Newport, 1st Baron Torrington. Richard Newport never married and did not have any children. He passed away in December 1716 when he was 31 years old.
Becoming a Politician
Richard Newport became a politician in 1714. He joined the British House of Commons, which is a very important part of the British Parliament. He represented the area called (Much) Wenlock. As a Member of Parliament (MP), his job was to speak for the people of Wenlock and help make laws for the country. He served as an MP until 1715.
