Early Life and Education

Richard Pryse was the oldest son of John Pryse from a place called Gogerddan. He went to study law at a famous school called the Inner Temple. He started his studies there in November 1583.

His Political Career

Sir Richard Pryse was elected to be a Member of Parliament many times. This meant he helped make laws for the country. In 1584, he was first elected to represent Cardiganshire. He was also chosen to be the High Sheriff of Cardiganshire in 1585. This was an important local job.

He was elected as a Member of Parliament for Cardiganshire again in 1589. He continued to serve in Parliament in 1593 and then again in 1601.

Important Roles and Honors

On July 7, 1602, Sir Richard Pryse became a member of the Council of Marches. This was a special group that helped govern parts of Wales and England. In July 1603, he was given the title of "Sir" when he was knighted. This was a great honor.

In 1604, he was High Sheriff of Cardiganshire again. There was a small issue that year. On April 17, 1604, the House of Commons asked him to explain some things he did as Sheriff during an election in Cardigan. He continued his political work. He was elected as a Member of Parliament for Cardiganshire two more times, in 1614 and 1621.

Family and Legacy

Sir Richard Pryse passed away in 1623. He was buried in Llanbadarnfawr Church.

He was married to Gwenllian Pryse. Her father was Thomas Pryse. Sir Richard's grandson, also named Richard, later received a special title. He became a baronet, which is a hereditary title.
