Richard Richardson (born around 1664 – died 31 December 1714) was an English judge. He was also a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tory political group.

A Member of Parliament is someone chosen by people to represent them in the country's main law-making body, called Parliament. The Tories were a political group in England at that time. They had specific ideas about how the country should be run.

Early Life and Legal Career

Richard Richardson was the son of John Richardson. His father lived in London and also in East Barnet, Hertfordshire. Richard studied law at a famous place called the Middle Temple in London.

In 1686, he officially became a lawyer. This was known as being "called to the bar." Later, in 1705, he became a very senior and respected lawyer called a Serjeant-at-law. By 1707, he was a judge in the Sheriffs’ Courts in London. These were local courts that handled various legal cases. He likely held this judge position for the rest of his life.

Political Career

Richard Richardson served as a Member of Parliament for two different areas. From 1710 to 1713, he represented Dunwich. Then, from 1 April 1714 until his death on 31 December 1714, he represented Ipswich.

Family Life

In 1691, Richard Richardson married Sarah. She was likely the daughter of George Solme from Gillingham, Dorset. They had one son and one daughter together.
