Richard Stock (born 1569, died 1626) was an English church leader. He was an important member of the Puritan group. He also helped start a group called the Feoffees for Impropriations. This group aimed to support good preachers. Stock served as a minister at All Hallows, Bread Street in London from 1611 until 1626.

Richard Stock's Life Story

Richard Stock was born in York, England. When he was a young preacher, he spoke out against unfairness. He even got the nickname "green-head" because of his strong opinions! In 1603, he preached against the Lord Mayor of London. At that time, he was a lecturer at St Augustine Watling Street.

He went to St John's College, Cambridge in 1587. He earned his Master's degree there in 1594. He studied with William Whitaker, a famous theologian. Stock also became good friends with Thomas Gataker. For a short time, he was a fellow at Sidney Sussex College.

In 1596, he became the rector (a type of priest) of Standlake. Later, he worked as a chaplain for Sir Anthony Cope.

At All Hallows church, Stock was the parish priest for a young John Milton. Milton later became a very famous poet. Stock might have helped choose Milton's teachers. For example, Thomas Young might have been suggested by Stock or Gataker. Stock may also have helped choose Milton's college tutor, Nathaniel Tovey.
