History of Ridgley Church
The Ridgley Methodist Episcopal Church was first started in 1871. A cemetery was also begun next to the church in 1892. The main part of the church building you see today was built in 1921. A small addition was put on the north side of the church in the 1940s.
In 1990, the entire church building was moved. It went from its first spot to where it stands now. A fire damaged the church in 2002. This fire destroyed the original plaster inside the building. Today, the church is home to the New Rock Church.
The Church Building and Cemetery
The church building has a special design called Late Gothic Revival. It has a front that looks like a triangle, called a gable-front. The church is a one-story building.
The cemetery next to the church is also very old. It has about 20 gravestones. Many of these stones were carved by hand. They often have designs of flowers and vines. The gravestones are placed in neat rows. They are also grouped together by families. These stones show dates from the 1910s to the 1940s.
