Captain Peter Miles Riggal was a brave soldier who served in the Lincolnshire Regiment, a part of the British army. He was very skilled with explosives, which are special tools used to create controlled blasts. Because of his skills, he was chosen to join a secret group called the SOE. This group helped the Allies fight in World War II by carrying out secret missions.

Captain Riggal worked as a teacher for the SOE. He trained secret agents, teaching them how to use explosives safely and effectively. Later in the war, he joined another special group called Force 136. This group worked in Asia. Captain Riggal taught agents who were preparing for a big mission: to go into Japan and destroy important targets if the war continued. However, these agents never had to go on their mission. The war with Japan ended when powerful atomic bombs were used, which stopped the fighting.

Captain Riggal's Secret Notes

Captain Riggal kept many of his training notes and papers. These notes were supposed to be destroyed after the war, but they were forgotten for a long time.

What the Notes Show

These papers give us a special look into what secret agents learned during the war. They show how important and dangerous their training was.

  • School Exercise Books: Some of the notes are in regular school exercise books. They contain details about his training classes.
  • Agent Assessments: The notes also include how Captain Riggal judged the agents he was training. He wrote down how well they were doing.
  • Training Information: The papers have lots of information on many secret topics. This includes:

* How to use secret codes. * How to create disguises to look like someone else. * How to test explosives safely. * Techniques for asking questions during difficult situations.

Where to See the Notes

Today, Captain Riggal's important papers are on display for everyone to see. You can find them at the Combined Military Services Museum in Maldon, a town in Essex, England.
