River Island is a small piece of land surrounded by water. It is one of the many Falkland Islands, which are located in the South Atlantic Ocean. This island is found in an area called Byron Sound.
River Island sits to the south of two other islands: East Island and Pebble Island. To its west, there is another island that appears and disappears with the tides. A shallow lagoon separates this tidal island from River Island.
Even though its name is "River Island," it is actually surrounded by salt water from the ocean, not fresh water from a river.
