The Lacaille River (or rivière à Lacaille in French) is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the famous St. Lawrence River. This river runs through two towns: Saint-Pierre-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud and Montmagny.

The Lacaille River is part of the Chaudière-Appalaches region. It is also located in the Montmagny Regional County Municipality.

What is the Lacaille River?

The Lacaille River is a tributary. This means it's a smaller river that flows into a larger one. In this case, it joins the mighty Saint Lawrence River.

Where does the river start and end?

The Lacaille River begins in Saint-Pierre-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud. It starts from small streams that often come from farm areas. At its source, the river is about 35 meters (115 feet) above sea level.

The river then flows for about 12.8 kilometers (8 miles). It ends when it empties into the Saint Lawrence River near the town of Montmagny. At its mouth, the river is only about 4 meters (13 feet) above sea level.

How did the Lacaille River get its name?

The name Rivière à Lacaille was officially recognized on December 5, 1968. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This commission is in charge of naming places in Quebec.
