Rizal, officially called the Province of Rizal (in Tagalog, Lalawigan ng Rizal), is a special area in the Philippines. It's located in a region known as Calabarzon, just 16 kilometers (about 10 miles) east of Manila, the capital city.
This province is named after a very important person in Philippine history: José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Realonda, usually known as José Rizal. He was a Filipino nationalist, which means he was a strong supporter of his country and its people.

Education in Rizal
Rizal is home to the Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU). This is a big public university in the Philippines. It officially became a university in 2010. This happened because of a special law called Republic Act 9852.
