Rob Fisher started his music career in bands like Whitewing and the Xtians. This was during his time studying at the University of Bath.
Forming Neon
In 1979, Rob joined up with Pete Byrne to create a band called Neon. Their first song, "Making Waves/Me I See in You," was released on their own record label, 3D Music. Later, other musicians joined Neon, including Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal. The band eventually broke up in December 1981.
Naked Eyes' Success
In 1982, Rob Fisher and Pete Byrne formed a new duo called Naked Eyes. They were important figures in the early days of synth-pop music. Around the same time, Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal formed their own famous band, Tears for Fears.
Naked Eyes had two very big hits. One was their version of the Burt Bacharach song "Always Something There to Remind Me". The other was a song they wrote themselves called "Promises, Promises". They also had two more songs that made it into the top 40 in the United States: "When the Lights Go Out" and "(What) In the Name of Love." After these successes, Rob and Pete went their separate ways for a while.
They started writing music together again after five years. Some of the songs they wrote during this time appeared on Pete Byrne's 2001 album, The Real Illusion.
Climie Fisher's Hits
In 1987, Rob Fisher formed a new pop duo called Climie Fisher with singer-songwriter Simon Climie. Together, they had a huge hit with the song "Love Changes (Everything)," which reached number 2 in the United Kingdom. Another one of their songs, "Rise to the Occasion," which had a hip hop style, also made it into the top 10 in the UK.
After Climie Fisher broke up, Rob worked with other artists. He collaborated on several songs with Rick Astley and Jules Shear. For some years, Rob owned his own music studio called The StoneRoom. He was working on a new Naked Eyes album with Pete Byrne there, right up until shortly before he passed away.
