Robert was the third son of John Barker. His father, John, was a merchant from Bildeston, a town in Suffolk, England. Robert went to St John's College, Cambridge for his education. He also studied law at a place called the Inner Temple. This helped him learn about laws and government.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
Robert Barker became a Member of Parliament (MP) for Colchester, a town in Essex, England. An MP is someone chosen to represent people in the country's parliament. He was elected four times between 1597 and 1621. This means he helped make laws and important decisions for England.
Other Important Jobs
Robert also held other important jobs. In 1601, he became a Justice of the Peace (JP) for Harwich. A JP helps keep peace and order in a local area. He was also a JP for Essex from 1607 to 1617. In 1612, he became a Serjeant-at-Law for Colchester. This was a special and important legal role. Robert passed away in 1618 at Monkwick.
