It sits on the Great Northern Highway. Bogucki started on his bicycle. He planned to cross the Great Sandy Desert. His goal was to reach Fitzroy Crossing.

The Search Begins

Police were called after his bicycle was found. A pile of his clothes was also found nearby. Two Aboriginal trackers were asked to help. A large search party looked for Bogucki. After 28 days, police stopped the main search. They had found no trace of him. Several search vehicles were also damaged. Bogucki's family then hired new trackers. These were specialists from the United States. They soon found fresh clues. This showed Bogucki was still alive.

Found Alive!

Robert Bogucki was found on August 23, 1999. A Channel Nine news helicopter spotted him. He was in Western Australia's Edgar Ranges. This was about 400 kilometers (248 miles) from where he started. How He Survived
