Life and Family of Robert Bruce
Robert Bruce was born in Clackmannan, Scotland. His parents were Thomas Bruce, 1st Baron of Clackmannan and Marjory. Robert received more land in Clackmannan in 1359. This land was given to him by his cousin, King David II. He also received more land in Rate, Scotland in 1367.
Robert Bruce married Isabel Stewart. She was the daughter of Robert Stewart of Durisdeer. Together, they had five sons and one daughter:
- Robert Bruce, 3rd Baron of Clackmannan
- Edward Bruce, who lived in Stenhouse. He married Agnes Airth around 1417. Agnes was the daughter of Sir William Airth.
- James Bruce, who became a Bishop in Dunkeld.
- Alexander Bruce
- Thomas Bruce, who lived in Wester Kennet. He received a special document for these lands in 1389.
- Helen Bruce, who married David Ross of Balnagown.
Robert Bruce's Final Battle
Robert Bruce was captured and killed on July 23, 1403. This happened during a big fight known as the Battle of Shrewsbury. After his death, his son Robert took over as the third Baron.
