Early Life and Legal Training

Robert Brudenell began his legal studies in 1480. He joined the Inner Temple, which was one of the main places where lawyers were trained in London. This was like going to a top university for law today.

He gave his first important lecture, called a "reading," in 1490. This lecture was about a complex legal topic called De donis conditionalibus. He gave another reading in 1500, showing his deep understanding of the law.

Rising Through the Ranks

Sir Robert Brudenell quickly became a leader at the Inner Temple. In 1496, he became a governor of the inn. Before 1503, he also served as its treasurer, managing its money.

His career continued to grow. In 1503, he became a Serjeant-at-law. This was a very high rank for a lawyer. The next year, in 1504, he was promoted to King's Serjeant. This meant he advised the King on legal matters.

Becoming a Judge

In 1507, Sir Robert Brudenell became a judge. He was appointed as a puisne justice in the King's Bench. This court handled important cases, including those involving the King.

Later, he was given the title of "Sir," meaning he was knighted. On April 23, 1520, he moved to an even more important position. He became the Chief Justice of the Common Pleas. This was one of the highest judicial roles in England. He held this position until November 22, 1530.

Family and Legacy

Sir Robert Brudenell passed away on January 30, 1531. He had a son named Thomas. His family continued to be important in England. Many years later, one of his great-grandsons became the Earl of Cardigan, a noble title.
