Robert Joseph Greene (born January 11, 1973) is a writer from Canada. He is known for his stories about diverse relationships and experiences. His most famous work is The Gay Icon Classics of the World. This book is a collection of love stories from over 12 different countries. Each story shares a unique culture and people. PFLAG Canada, a group that supports LGBTQ+ people and their families, suggested this book in their "Books Worth Reading" list.

One of the stories in The Gay Icon Classics is "Halo's Golden Circle". It is a sad love story that takes place in ancient Judea. A Jewish scholar named Steven Greenberg said it was a "beautiful story."

Robert Joseph Greene is a cousin of the American Jazz singer Carmen McRae.

Writing Adventures

In 2006, a magazine called Letters From Camp Rehoboth shared a part of Greene's story "The Journey and the Jewels." Another weekly publication in Florida, Watermark, also praised his writing.

In 2012, Greene released The Gay Icon Classics of the World II. A story from this book, "The Blue Door," is about a young Russian prince who realizes he is gay. Some students in Russia translated this story. They used it to protest laws that limited discussions about LGBTQ+ topics in Saint Petersburg.

In June 2013, a publishing company called Weltbild removed Greene's books from their stores. The company said his books did not fit their "traditional values."

Greene's book This High School Has Closets was nominated for a Lambda Literary Awards in 2012. It was in the category for young adult novels.

In January 2014, Greene started a fun campaign. He asked bird experts to help make "Jabber of Jays" an official term for a group of jays in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

In April 2015, Greene was a finalist for the Vancouver Pride Legacy Turquoise Award for the Arts. This award celebrates people who make a difference in the arts.

Standing Up for Fairness

In February 2008, Greene made a complaint to the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (CBSC). This group makes sure radio and TV shows follow rules. Greene complained about a radio show called Harjinder Thind Radio Show on CKYE-FM. He said the show was unfair to the LGBT community. He also said the show let callers say untrue things and did not allow different opinions.

After looking into it, the CBSC agreed with Greene on October 23, 2008. They found that CKYE-FM and the Harjinder Thind Show broke rules. These rules were from the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Code of Ethics. The radio station and show had to announce the CBSC's decision and correct their mistakes. They had to do this in both Punjabi and English.

Libraries and Inclusiveness

In 2012, Greene's publisher found that some librarians were hesitant to review This High School Has Closets. They worried it might cause negative reactions from the public. This led the Canadian Library Association to remind everyone about their policy. This policy supports including LGBTQ+ materials and protects "freedom of expression" in libraries.
