About Robert Napper's Life
Robert Napper was born in Newport, Wales, on December 23, 1818. His parents were Peter and Mary Napper.
His Early Interests and Travels
Robert was very interested in natural history, which is the study of nature. In 1841, he sailed all the way to Sydney, Australia. From there, he traveled to collect different plant and animal samples. He explored areas around Moreton Bay in Queensland, Australia.
After his time in Australia, Robert moved to Manila in the Philippines. He worked in business there for 12 years.
Learning Photography
In 1856, Robert Napper returned to Britain. On his way back, he traveled through America. It was during this trip that he learned about photography.
From 1859 to 1861, he was a partner in a photography company in London. The company was called McLean, Melhuish, Napper & Co.
Famous Photographs
Robert Napper is most famous for the photographs he took in the early 1860s. He worked for a well-known photographer named Francis Frith. Robert took many pictures in Spain, especially in a region called Andalusia.
Robert Napper became ill and passed away on October 31, 1867. He was 48 or 49 years old.
