Professor and Author
Dixon became a professor at Trinity College Dublin in 1848. He taught about natural and experimental philosophy, which was how science was often described back then. He was interested in how the world works and how to study it through experiments.
In 1849, Professor Dixon published an important book. It was called Treatise on Heat, Part 1. This book explored topics like how thermometers work, how things expand when heated, and how substances change from one state to another, like water turning into steam.
