Roberta Findlay (born 1943) is an American film director, cinematographer, producer, and actress. She is known for her work behind the camera, helping to create many movies. Her films have been getting more attention and praise from critics recently.
Early Life and Music
Roberta Findlay was born Roberta Hershkowitz in Brooklyn, New York City. Her parents were immigrants from Hungary. She grew up in the Bronx, another part of New York City. As a child, Roberta learned to play the piano very well. Her parents hoped she would become a professional musician.
Starting a Film Career
While studying at the City College of New York, Roberta met Michael Findlay. He was also a student there. Michael asked Roberta to play the piano for a silent film screening he was organizing at the college. They later got married and started making films together. Roberta often worked as the cinematographer, which means she was in charge of how the film was shot and looked.
Roberta and Michael worked on many films together. After they separated, Roberta continued to make movies on her own. Michael Findlay passed away in 1977. After his death, Roberta kept directing films, including the horror movies Blood Sisters (1987) and Tenement (1985).
